Radio Silence

There’s a reason for the recent radio silence around here: this little guy.

He arrived in our lives at 3:13 a.m. on Friday, September 10. Since then, it’s been a whirlwind blur of sleepless nights, visits from family and friends and adjusting to life with a newborn. Read: staying at home a lot between naps and feeding schedules.

But we love our little guy and think he’s the cutest thing ever. Being cute really helps when it is 4 a.m. and he has been keeping us awake all night long.

After a week at home with the three of us, my sister and 5 month old nephew arrived from Chicago. Kelley made sure we ate well, kept the dishes washed and gave plenty of needed advice and reassurance. She also made sure I got naps.

I’m not sure the cousins even know each other exist, but it was fun for us, anyway.

The next week, a friend from California arrived with her two-year-old son and another friend. She helped around the house and made a meal or two.

The day she left, my 86-year-old grandfather showed up on his new three-wheel Spyder motorcycle… from Florida.

He, my uncle, cousin and a friend were on their way to Arizona on their bikes and stopped by to see the newest member of the family. They stayed two nights so they could catch at quick visit with… my parents, who arrived the day before Baby J’s 4-week birthday.

My mom and dad stayed for 5 days, and my mom kept busy making casseroles, cleaning and doing dishes.

Oh, and she did it all one handed, because she had the baby in the other hand, of course.

My dad spent his time running to the store for supplies, watching our Netflix on demand and making up new nicknames for the baby.

They left on Monday, after we had him dedicated on Sunday.

That’s been our first month! Every day the little guy gets more alert and cute.

Now if only we can get him sleeping through the night… A girl can dream, can’t she?

  1. He’s adorable! Thanks for sharing pics! The first month(s) are always a bit overwhelming, and you’ve had a lot of visitors, too! I won’t even address the sleeping-through-the-night bit, as mine took forever (read: over a year) to sleep through the night. Hopefully you are one of the lucky ones who can get him on a good schedule early and your life will be much easier! Blessings to you!

  2. LOVED all the pics Kim! So glad you had some help in those early days! It is amazing what you are able to do on little sleep. But, it does get better. (Don’t worry, I used to roll my eyes when people said that too.) 🙂 Oh, and of course, he is absolutely adorable!
